UniWellness is a HIPAA-compliant telemental health platform that reduces barriers to mental health care access for Virginia college students by connecting them to Virginia-licensed counselors.
But how does it work? What should you expect?
Step 1: Create your account
Tell us your name and email address, then enter your desired password. If you’d like to receive text message reminders before each appointment, you can enter your phone number here, too. Don’t worry – we won’t call you or send you any other texts!
Step 2: Check out our counselors’ profiles
Each of our mental health professionals has a profile that tells you more about them. They list their specialties, skills, professional licenses, and more. This information can help you decide which counselor is best for you!
Step 3: Request an appointment
Once you select your counselor, click the blue “Request an appointment” button on their profile. This will show you your counselor’s availability. Select the date and time that work best for you, then enter your payment information. (Don’t worry – you won’t be charged until your appointment is over!) When you complete this process, you’ll receive an email with your appointment information. Don’t forget to add your appointment to your planner!
If your counselor isn’t available when you are, send us an email at email@example.com with your counselor’s name and a few dates and times that work for you. We’ll coordinate with your counselor directly to accommodate you.
Step 4: Meet with your counselor
You’ll receive an email reminder and a text message reminder (if you gave us your phone number) 30 minutes before your appointment. At the time of your appointment, log in to your UniWellness account. On your dashboard, you’ll see the blue “Join call” button next to your counselor’s name. Click this button to enter your appointment.
A UniWellness appointment is just like an in-person appointment. Allow your browser to access your camera and microphone, then join the appointment and meet with your counselor! Your appointment is HIPAA-compliant and secure. No need to worry about anyone entering your appointment or accessing your data – not even us!
Inside the appointment, you can securely message and exchange files with your counselor. When using Google Chrome, you and your counselor can also share your screens with each other if you’d like. At the end of your appointment, click the “End the call” button in the top left corner and share your feedback with us using the pop-up that appears. Your feedback is important to us – we use it to improve your call quality and user experience!
