In a High-Needs District, Upping Mental Health SupportsImproves School Climate, Teacher Retention

By hiring six more mental health professionals over the past two years, Fort Logan Northgate, a school that serves students in grades 3 through 8, has noticed improved behavior, a positive shift in the school’s culture surrounding mental health, and a 50% increase in teacher retention since the 2015-2016 academic year.

A recent article in The Cavalier Daily, the University of Virginia‘s student-run newspaper, describes the pressures and barriers to accessing mental health care at college. From the desire to be perfect to weeks-long waiting lists at schools across the country, students are struggling to find the help they need when they need it.

‘Crimson Mind and Body Performance Program’Offers Mental Health Support to Student-Athletes

Harvard University’s Athletics Department and Counseling and Mental Health Services have teamed up to offer a mental health program for student-athletes. With a focus on mental health screening, education, and care, the Crimson Mind and Body Performance Program is designed to increase accessibility to mental health care to students on the university’s sports teams.

Governor Northam Announces Same Day Access to Mental Health Services Now Available at All 40 Community Services Boards in Virginia

Same Day Access is finally a reality in Virginia. In an effort to prevent Virginians from waiting weeks or months to receive mental health care, all 40 Community Services Boards now provide walk-in hours to see individuals on the same day that they call or visit. This is a huge step forward for mental health care access in Virginia!
