Virginia Tech Therapy Dog Moose Named 2019 Animal Hero

Moose, a therapy dog at Virginia Tech’s Cook Counseling Center, has made a tremendously positive impact on campus! From making counseling feel more supportive to helping students destigmatize mental health, the difference Moose has made has led Virginia Tech to add two more therapy dogs to their counseling staff.

Cross-department collaboration with the counseling center, increased mental health programming, adding mental health-related resources to syllabi, and providing iPads with wellness apps have made a great difference at Ohio State.

Eighth grade teacher Jessie Clayton developed an easy way for students to communicate with her about how they’re doing. With this daily check-in, she has a better understanding of who is doing well and who needs help. We hope every teacher sees this and implements this strategy in their classrooms!
